Pit Fire Gallery

This was one of the first methods of firing done by primitive man. A large pit is dug in the ground and the bottom is filled with sawdust. Pots are arranged on top of the sawdust and oxides are thrown in. The rest of the pit is then filled with wood and set aflame.

This firing method uses no glazes and the pots remain porous. As a result, these pieces are used primarily for their highly decorative attributes although dried flowers may be used.
